Dieticians: "Sugar free" for 20 days: Are these results too good to be true?

Dieticians: My doc said my blood sugar was a little high. So 20 days ago I quit eating obvious sugar such as sodas, candy, breakfast cereal, and desserts. I still eat fruit and some condiments.
For the first 7 days I lost 1 pound per day. I started at 187 pounds. (I'm 5' 11".) And that doesn't surprise me so much.
What surprises me is I've had back and knee pain for years and it seems to have subsided considerably. I've had athletes foot for years and that has almost disappeared completely. My appetite is reduced. And finally, I noticed my recovery time between workouts is almost half of what it was before removing sugar.
What I'm asking is: In your opinion, did these changes occur because I (mostly) eliminated sugar from my diet?
EDIT: In Lustig's lecture he says sugafructose/sucrose effects blood pressure. So after watching Lustig's video, I went down to the local Rite Aid and used their blood pressure machine (one I've used before). My b/p was 115/79. That's the lowest b/p I've had in 10 years.
EDIT: Thank you all for your comments! Among them was a recommendation to check out Professor Lustig's video about sugar on YouTube, so I did. I just finished watching it and I recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their health. For what it's worth, you'll find my attempt at notes on Lustig's lecture below.
Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, Sugar: The Bitter Truth (YouTube) 2007, University of California Television (UCTV)
Hi triglycerides and low hdl cholesterol = heart attack Low triglycerides and high hdl = healthy heart
Fructose doesn't provide any biochemical trigger to produce leptin or Ghrelin (the hunger hormones that tell us we're full). Fructose also doesn't stimulate insulin production.
Fructose also results in more uric acid which increases our chance of gout. Also the increased uric acid directly correlates with increased b/p.
Fructose = de novo lipogensis = fat.
Lustig's prescription: Drink only water and milk: Get rid of all sugared liquids. Eat all carbohydrates with fiber. Wait 20 minutes before eating a second portion (wait for the satiety signal). Buy your screen time with physical activity: minute for minute (admittedly, a difficult one).
The biggest problem with this prescription is sugar drink consumption.
Why is exercise so important to prevention of obesity: Improves skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity Reduces stress which reduces the release of cortisol. Stress and obesity goes hand in hand. Makes the TCA cycle run faster, and detoxifies fructose, improving hepatic insulin sensitivity. (Burns fructose off before it makes the fat.) (The tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA cycle) is a series of enzyme-catalyzed chemical reactions that form a key part of aerobic respiration in cells. This cycle is also called the Krebs cycle and the citric acid cycle.)
Fiber: Wherever there's fructose in nature, there's fiber. When God created the poison, He created the antidote along with it.
Fiber: Reduces the intestinal rate of carbohydrate absorption. Increases the rate of transit which signals satiety (signal that we're full) quicker. Reduces rate of absorption of fatty acids in the colon. More fiber results in less fat.
McDonald's: Hi fructose corn syrup in everything except 7 items: coffee, tea, chicken mcnuggets, fries, sausage, hash browns
Obesity on the increase in 6 month olds: The more sugar the mother eats and drinks = more propensity for obesity in the baby. Also today's baby formulas are like a milk shakes.
Biochemically, soda causes soda belly in the same way beer causes beer belly. The same number of calories hit the liver which is the key.
Ethanol (alcohol) is an acute toxin. Fructose is a chronic toxin.
Bottom Line: Avoid Sucrose and high fructose corn syrup.

Elevated gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT~250) causes when all else normal?

50M, 260lbs, 6’, caucasian, non-smoker, no recreational drugs, located in Bermuda. Sedentary, although I swim, play squash, and play golf when nothing is broken or torn. Slightly elevated blood pressure (130/90)
For the last few blood tests, I have had elevated GGT enzymes of between 210 and 260. All other liver numbers and bloodwork are normal except total cholesterol is high, but only because HDL is quite high while LDL is quite low. Ratio is excellent. Blood sugar is all good. High HDL and elevated GGT are the only remarkable serological findings.
My doctor spoke to me about my drinking, assuming from the bloodwork that I was a drinker, and I agreed that I could cut back, but then we dug into my drinking and talked about what that actually means. He was kind of shocked to learn that I buy a six pack of beer for the weekend and it will usually last me two weeks, maybe a week if I have a guest over. I generally go for pints after work about every second Friday, but I rarely have more than two drinks. Maybe once a month or less I will indulge at a social event and have maybe 6 drinks.
My doctor said, “Looking at this GGT number, I thought you were going to tell me you were a two-or-three-bottles-of-wine-a-night guy.” I am not. I do tend to drink more wine when my wife is around, but we’ve been separated since mid July (and by “separated” I mean geographically, not romantically; thanks Covid!). Even when she was around, we’d open a bottle of wine with dinner and it would usually last two nights. Maybe on a Friday we’d indulge and kill the whole bottle. In short, in spite of the username (that was based on a one-time event), I am a somewhat regular weekend social drinker but generally low quantities.
I’m kind of at a loss to explain the high GGT count, but I don’t know if 250 is considered a little high or “better-get-a-biopsy” high. Certainly my doc thought it seemed high for the amount I drink. What other reasons would there be for high GGT when all else appears well within desirable ranges?
The only other relevant factor I can think of is that with each of the last three blood tests, I was actively recovering from athletic injuries and so was taking naproxen (220mg to 440mg 2 x daily) and etoricoxib (120mg daily, 3 x 7-day cycles, recently started on 90mg/day for a six-week initial period before review) to deal with significant inflammation. I am currently dealing with a full-thickness supraspinatus tendon tear and a broken toe, although the toe came after the last blood test.
I understand that some people may just have genetics that produce high GGT numbers. Any other ideas?
